RIM needs to sell to the Reptilian Brain

RIM just revealed its new BlackBerry 10 operating system.

The Globe and Mail’s headline reads “RIM’s next offering gets chilly reception”.

This doesn’t mean that the media is being unfair to RIM.

It is simply a reflection that, in the absence of sufficient information, the Reptilian Brain defaults to the negative.

Why? because it’s safer.

Succeeding in marketing and sales means selling to the primitive brain – the ancient part of our brain that is interested in only three things: benefits (food), threats and sex.

The market sees threats and sells off stock.

RIM needs to insure that the consumer sees benefits ….. and it will help a lot if the new BlackBerry is sexy.
